Chris Phillips, ATC, CSCS
Founder and Owner
Chris is Founder and Owner of Compete Sports Performance & Rehab and sets the standard for Compete's performance training and sports medicine programs. He is a recognized board certified Athletic Trainer (NATA) and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) that possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of performance training and sports rehabilitation. Chris is also a Integrative Correctice Exercise Specialist, Certified Power Plate Trainer, a member of the Medical Fitness Network and a provider for US Figure Skating's National Network of Sports Medicine.
With more than 20 years of experience in professional sports, Chris has served as the Athletic Trainer for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League, The Los Angeles Sol of the Womens Professional Soccer League, and has served as both the Head Athletic Trainer and Head Strength Coach for the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League. More recently, Chris has supervised the sports medicine and performance training programs for the Orange County Blues of the Men's USL Pro League and Anaheim Bolts of the Professional Indoor Soccer League. Chris is also one of the Co-Founders for 90strong.com, a soccer performance training website where Chris frequently contributes his knowldege of sports medicine and strength & conditioning. He has written for High School Illustrated Magazine, Cali Rubber Magazine and Men's Journal.
While working in the NHL, Chris's proudest moment was being a member of the 2003 Stanley Cup Finalist, Mighty Ducks. He was also selected as the Head Athletic Trainer for the 2002 Men's USA Hockey National Team that competed in Sweden. Throughout his career, Chris has worked with elite athletes including Alex Ovechkin, Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, JS Giguere, Joy Fawcett, Marta and Shannon Boxx.
Brandon serves as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for Compete Sports Performance & Rehab. Brandon brings superior experience as both an athlete and coach to the staff. He also serves as the current Defensive Coordinator for the Tustin High School Varsity Football Team.
Kojo Ahrin CSCS
Kojo is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He attended Northern Arizona University where he played football and studied sports exercise. Kojo currently runs Compete's Athletic Performance classes as well as semi private training. His expertise is in running mechanics, speed and agility. He currently works with various sports agencies preparing athletes for the NFL Combine. Kojo is currently completing his doctorate in Sports Psychology and serves as a consultant in Mental Performance at Compete.
Sara Bartlett ATC
Sara Bartlett is a board certified Athletic Trainer and graduate of Chapman University. Sara has experience both in a clinical and traditional setting. Her main responsibility at Compete is to care for over 200 competetitive cheerleaders at OC All Stars Cheer and Dance in Lake Forest and is the Athletic Trainer for Santa Margarita Catholic High School's Competitive Cheer Team. Sara also works with athletes at Compete and covers various sporting events providing Athletic Training coverage. She also handles sales and marketing.
Melissa Garcia CSCS
Melissa graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Kiniesiology with an emphasis on Exercise Science. She was a four year varsity soccer player while attending Cal Poly. Melissa has also played soccer in the WPSL. At Compete, Melissa mainly works with sports performance and personal training clients and is a certified Strength and Conditioning Speciallist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Laura Garcia MS, ATC
Laura received her Masters Degree from Boston University in Anatomy and Physiology. She is a certified Athletic Trainer who received her Bachelors Degree at Chapman University. Laura's previous experience includes a Assistant Athletic Trainer position at Harvard University and an internship with USA Volleyball Men's and Women's team. At Compete, Laura serves as the Athletic Trainer for Capistano Valley Christian School and Saddleback Valley Pop Warner. She also works with clients at Compete both with training and rehab.
Michael Metcalfe ATC, CSCS
Michael is a certified Athletic Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist who graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. Following college, Michael worked as a Minor League Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. At Compete, Michael works with athletes both in sports performance training and sports rehab. He also covers athletic events including the West Coast Futbol Club's U12 Academy team.
Amanda Kasten, ATC
Amanda Kasten is a board certified Athletic Trainer and graduate of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where she primarily covered football, lacrosse and cross country. Amanda started at Compete as a client when she was a competitive cheerleader for Lady Bullets where she won a World Championship in 2013. At Compete, Amanda works with athletes both in sports injury rehab and sports performance training and provides Athletic Training coverage for events.
